Along with a few other families, Chris and Michele Poate started the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour in 2009, when their children, Patrick and Antonia, were 9 and 12. There was a fun local group of juniors, who loved to practice and play together, but had no opportunity to measure their improvement and compete in this area. The Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour is here to enable junior golfers to gain regular local tournament playing experience and allow them to become the best golfers they can be while playing for points and exemptions for larger tournaments. Above all, we hope they learn to love the game and learn the valuable life lessons that come with it.
The core values of our tour continue to be:
1. Affordability: We will strive to keep fees as low as possible.
2. Fun: This is for the juniors and it must be fun for them to want to play, improve and learn to love the game. To this end, we are allowing caddies (friends and family) to encourage positive interaction. This can be quality family time!
3. Competitiveness: Good competition brings out the best in our children and increases the enjoyment level. Age appropriate yardages help them develop a love for the game and allow for quick improvement when you play regularly. During our Spring and Summer Series, players will earn points towards a seasonal Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour Ranking. All our two day events qualify for National Junior Golf Scoreboard consideration and we offer FJT STEP exemptions for those juniors who want to take their game to the next level.
4. Openness: Although we spend a lot of time thinking about what we are doing, we are open to any suggestions that may improve the tour!
With all that being said, we still need to adhere to rules and regulations. Please familiarize yourselves with the policies of the tour - under Rules and Regulations - as they will be enforced for the benefit of the Tour, the players and the integrity of the game!!
